NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICE COUNCILSThe Neighborhood Service Councils were established in the 1950s as a vehicle to help members and their families with community matters. They provide eligible members and pensioners with advice on matters including consumer credit, contacts from bill collectors, landlord and tenant disputes, and the Burial Society (no plots are currently available). Today, they also sponsor the union's sports league, provide Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption information and applications, host the annual children's holiday party, and counsel members who have consumer disputes that are not covered by the Pre-Paid Legal Fund. In summer months, the NSC provides discount tickets to Great Adventure and other parks. For additional information, call (212) 586-6400, ext. 4262, or visit the NSC office at 305 West 44th Street on the 4th floor. |
